For claimed disunity with MLA , BJP women’ wing head heckled

Agartala: Senior leader of the BJP women’s wing Bernali Goswami, who is also the chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission, was on Tuesday attacked by a group of her own party’s women supporters. Physically harassed due to alleged non-cooperation with candidate Biswa Bandhu Sen.

The incident has provoked repercussions within the party as Goswami is considered one of the few BJP leaders with roots in the RSS. BJP candidate Biswa Bandhu Sen, who is also a sitting MLA, refused to comment on the issue.

According to party insiders, Bernali Goswami was among the aspirants for the party ticket for the 2023 assembly polls but since incumbent MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen has a strong influence among the locals and has won the seat three times in a row, Therefore, the party did not take the ticket. Risk of replacing it with a new candidate. However, the development did not go down well with Goswami who was hoping for a ticket.
Speaking on the issue, Namita Nath, an elected BJP councilor from Dharmanagar Municipal Council, said, “As the party reposed its faith in Biswa Bandhu Sen, the faction of the party led by Goswami, senior MLA. He even tried to convince me to work against Sen but I refused.
Irked by Goswami’s “dubious” character, BJP workers harassed him at the BJP youth wing leader’s residence. Party workers sought an explanation from him, leading to heated verbal exchanges and scuffles.
Rejecting the allegations leveled against him, Goswami said, “I have never worked against the party.”

“Those who are making allegations against me cannot be BJP workers. I never said anything against the MLA or his candidature. I am shocked to see that people I have worked with for years are now accusing me of anti-party activities,” a tearful Goswami told mediapersons.
The TCW chairperson alleged that those who created the whole ruckus did not want the BJP’s well-being.
