A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and Tezpur University on 19 April 2023 to provide training to Indian Army personnel in Chinese Language – Mandarin.
The course will be of 16 weeks duration and will be conducted at Tezpur University. The MoU was signed by HQ 4 Corps and Registrar of Tezpur University on behalf of the Indian Army in the presence of Vice Chancellor Professor SN Singh.
Tezpur University, established as a central university by an Act of Parliament in 1994, is a pioneer in teaching foreign languages, including Mandarin, in the Northeast, with highly qualified teachers.
This Chinese language course will improve in-country Mandarin proficiency and empower Army personnel to engage with Chinese military personnel on a case-by-case basis.
With better Chinese language skills, military personnel will be better empowered to convey their points more seriously. It will also help in better exchange of views and understanding of Chinese PLA activities during various interactions such as commander-level talks, flag meetings, joint exercises and border staff meetings.
