Guwahati: At least six people, including a BJP leader from Assam, have been arrested on charges of human trafficking.
This incident has been reported from Murjhar area of Hojai, Assam.
The arrested persons have been identified as Parbina Begum, the main accused, Bilal Uddin, Afzal Uddin, Nasir Hussain, BJP leader Abdul Karim and Ajmal Hussain.
The arrested were later produced before a local court in Hojai, Assam, which remanded two accused in police custody and sent the others to jail.
According to the Assam Police, a human trafficking racket, in which the accused allegedly lured a minor girl into employment in Murjhar area and later sold her to a prostitution ring in Delhi.
However, the victim managed to escape and traveled to Dehradun, from where she contacted the authorities.
With the help of the All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU), the victim’s family brought the girl back to her home.
The victim’s statement was recorded by the police in Assam’s Hojai.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under several provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act in connection with the incident.
