Aizawl: Following the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the BJP and the Congress on Friday announced their party candidate lists for the upcoming Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) elections in Mizoram.
Elections to the 20-member council in Mizoram will be held on May 9.
Both BJP and Congress have fielded candidates on all 20 seats.
Earlier on Wednesday, the MNF had released the names of its candidates and contested all the seats.
A party leader said that the opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) will also contest the council elections and will announce the names of candidates soon.
The last date for filing nomination papers for the Chakma Council elections is April 24, while the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 27.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 25 and counting of votes will take place on May 11.
According to the final list published by the State Election Commission earlier this month, there are 35,885 voters within Chakma Council, including 17,677 women voters.
There are 70 polling stations within the council.
CADC was created in 1972 under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution for the welfare of the Chakma tribal people in Mizoram.
The head office of the council is at Chawngte or Kamalanagar in Lawngtlai district of South Mizoram.
The last council elections held in April 2018 threw a hung house with the MNF emerging as the single largest party winning 8 seats, while the Congress won 7, including a rival Faltoli constituency, and B JP (5).
The council was under the full rule of the MNF before Governor’s rule was imposed in December last year due to political instability.
