For 7 hours Curfew relaxed in twin districts of Imphal

Imphal: Officials said the Manipur government relaxed curfew for seven hours in Imphal East and West districts from 5 am on August 4 to facilitate the common man to purchase essential items.
Following fresh violence in various parts of the ethnic conflict-hit state, the administration on Thursday imposed a total curfew in two districts as a precautionary measure, reversing the relaxation announced earlier.
According to the orders issued by the district magistrates of Imphal East and West, the curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 12 pm on Friday “to facilitate the general public to purchase essential items including medicines and food items”.
More than 25 people were injured in clashes when Army and RAF personnel fired teargas shells in Kangvai and Phougakchao areas of Bishnupur district on Thursday to prevent processions from moving towards the proposed burial site.
A policeman of the Manipur Rifles was killed and another injured in an armed encounter at Senjam Chirang in Imphal West district on Thursday morning, police said.
In another development, a mob looted arms and ammunition from the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion post at Naransena in Bishnupur, official sources said.
