Folic Acid Tablets
Guwahati: A total of 50 students of two schools in Upper Assam’s Charaidev district fell ill on Saturday after consuming Iron Folic Acid (IFA) tablets provided by health department workers.
The students were immediately rushed to Sonari Civil Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.
Officials said that a team of health workers from Batau sub-centre under Patsaku Block Primary Health Center distributed IFA tablets to 75 students of Kherani Pathar Lower Primary School and 26 students of Namalia Lower Primary School.
The tablets were distributed in the presence of the teachers and the children were advised not to take them on an empty stomach.
A few hours after the distribution of pills, the health team received information from the school authorities that two children from each school were vomiting and complaining of stomach pain.
“They were immediately taken to Sonari Civil Hospital and further health intervention was done. Later, 48 more children were taken to the hospital for examination,” an official said.A Health Department release said that the situation is being closely monitored.
