Talking about the upgrading of Assam Police services, the Chief Minister said that very soon people will be able to file FIRs without coming to police stations.
He said that 20 services of Assam Police will be made available through mobile application and people can file FIRs online.
Sarma said this after presiding over the first phase of an important police review meeting at the Assam Police Headquarters in Ulubari, where he reviewed the preparedness of the police to tackle new era crimes and develop human intelligence.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the functioning of the City Police Department to improve policing in Guwahati and make it crime-free in the presence of senior officials of the Home Department and Police.
“Today, we reviewed the city camera installation plan in the meeting. We are confident that with the support and cooperation of the people of Guwahati, the government will provide more than five employees in public and private offices, commercial establishments, shops as well as 50,000 closed-circuit cameras. may install television cameras (CCTVs) in private apartments in Guwahati till Durga Puja next year,” Sarma said.
“The cameras have to be registered with the Assam Police portal before installation and have a storage capacity of at least 30 days,” the chief minister said.
He added that Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and Sub-Inspectors (SIs) of police stations will not be able to randomly check CCTVs installed in private residential complexes and will have to issue statutory notices for this purpose.
“Henceforth, it will be mandatory to install CCTV in all residential apartments. Such surveillance cameras will have to be installed in the residences of expatriates whose parents live alone in the city or working couples with There are children,” the chief minister said.
He reiterated that a new law will come into effect by April this year, which will make it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in all commercial establishments and shops, which have more than five employees. . He added that we will soon pass a new law in the Assam Assembly in this regard.
Sarma further informed that the DGP of Assam will hold a detailed interaction with the media persons on January 16 and highlight the crime trends and trends of the previous year in the state.
“We have decided that the DGP of the state will address an annual media conference in January every year where the SPs will also be practically present. Police officials will ask questions from the media persons in the conference.
The Chief Minister also informed that each of the families of around 300 martyrs of Assam Police will be provided government jobs during the program scheduled on January 25, 2023.
Notably, amid the spike in crime in the city last month, the Chief Minister had recently admitted to the media that he found the human intelligence in Guwahati Police Department to be somewhat lacking in dealing with crime in December 2022. had gone.
