Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and PWD in-charge Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday announced that the Chief Engineer (National Highways) has been directed to investigate the allegations related to the implementation of the Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai road project by the Dhar Construction Company.
In a statement to the press, Tynsong declared that any negligence in project completion, be it roads or any other state project in Meghalaya, is unacceptable.
He further clarified that this stretch of road is under the supervision of RO station from Guwahati, a part of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
On November 4, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), which includes the traditional heads of the War Jaintia Hills and Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), announced their intention to file a petition in the Meghalaya High Court.
The petition is against alleged corruption in the construction of Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai (NH 40E) (New NH 206), for which the Center had sanctioned Rs 43 crore.
Tynsong said in a statement that the decision to blacklist will be made after the process begins.
He further clarified that the matter is directly related to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), as they are the sole controlling authority of the project, not the state government.
