Arunachal Pradesh: The Tirap district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has constituted a nine-member committee of technical experts to investigate suspected faulty laptops supplied to CBSE exam toppers.
During a function on June 20, the education department in the district gave away free laptops to 18 deserving children who performed well in the CBSE Class X and XII examinations this year.
The laptops were distributed as part of Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE) District Academic Toppers Award 2021-22. However, eight students returned their computers, claiming they were old and unusable due to technical issues.
They also claimed that the computers had serious wear and tear, scratches, and obscene films stored on them with the identities of previous users. Tirap Deputy Commissioner Hento Karga formed an expert team headed by a circle officer to investigate the incident.
“The state government has decided to replace the laptops with new ones. To avoid any further embarrassment, the district administration has decided to thoroughly check the new machines before handing them over to the students. .
Meanwhile, the education administration has chosen to ban the computer supplier company.
According to a department spokesperson, the supplier was selected through a competitive bidding process.
All Tirap Students Union (ATSU) in a memorandum to DDSE on July 3 urged for a comprehensive investigation of all officials involved in District Academic Toppers Award 2021-22.
