Imphal: The Manipur Police has detained senior journalist and former member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Yambem Laba under various sections of the Arms Act, the police said.
Laba, who floated a new political party – Good Governance – in July this year, was picked up along with one of his close associates Khuraijam Dhanabir alias Tony from his residence located at Uripok Yambem Leikai in Imphal West district early Tuesday morning, police said.
As per Manipur Police sources, Laba has been detained in connection with an alleged case involving a “kangaroo court.”
The complaint, based on which he has been detained, is reportedly been filed by a woman at the Imphal West police station alleging she was threatened at gunpoint by Dhanabir in Laba’s presence over the repayment of borrowed money amounting to Rs 16 lakh.
The gun and another small weapon reportedly belonged to Laba.
