Kohima: Nagaland Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along has appealed to the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization not to boycott the Hornbill Festival 2023.
Speaking to the media, the tourism minister said, “I am a Naga like the rest of the Nagas in the eastern part of our state and I appeal to the Eastern Naga People’s Organization, Eastern families, brothers and sisters that Hornbill. The festival is the festival of the Nagas of Nagaland.
It is our duty to show our unity with our rich traditions through the Hornbill Festival. So I appeal to all the Nagas of the eastern part of the state to come forward and participate with enthusiasm.
Hornbill Festival is one of the most famous festivals of Nagaland, celebrated from 1st to 10th December every year.
Each tribe and sub-tribes of the state have their own ways of promoting their culture. Apart from their traditional ceremonial dress which varies for each tribe, there are multicolored spears and stakes with dyed goat hair.
Exotic headdresses and ivory armlets are other popular traditional items of the Nagas that steal the show. In earlier times, warriors had to prove their bravery to wear it.
