Kohima: According to the Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), only the BJP led coalition can resolve the long-standing demand of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO).
“The concerns of our Eastern brothers and sisters are deep rooted, genuine and legitimate. Their long-standing issue deserves a quick resolution,” Benjamin Yepthomi, State BJP President, told a press conference in Dimapur on August 26.
He said that both the Prime Minister and Home Minister are intent on bringing an amicable solution to the ENPO issue, not far from now.
As Nagas, he said that the demand of the ENPO concerns all Nagas and expressed confidence that the NDA leadership, including Home Minister Amit Shah, is keen on solving it.
“The BJP stands with the ENPO people. Their problem is legitimate and genuine. We stand with them and we look forward to sunnier days,” Yepthomi said.
Further, he informed that the state unit will soon begin a party membership drive in Nagaland. The first phase of the BJP’s nation-wide membership drive will begin on September 1 and continue till the 15th. In Nagaland, however, he said that it will begin on September 2 on account of September 1 being a Sunday.
He said that through the membership, the party intents to connect directly with the people, while also promoting the various welfare and development initiatives of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government. “I will be undertaking a statewide tour to engage directly with our people,” he said, while claiming that the focus would be on genuine participation than numbers alone.
“We are committed to ensuring that the membership process is transparent and authentic, focusing on genuine participation rather than mere numbers,” he said.
According to Yepthomi, the BJP has around 2.15 lakh active and primary members in Nagaland.
