Agartala: GB Pant Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College to introduce endoscopic brain surgery within their neurosurgery department.
Dr Sidda Reddy, a senior neurosurgeon at GBP Hospital, announced that they have received formal approval from the higher authorities to procure the necessary equipment for the purpose, as informed during the hospital’s weekly press briefing.
Dr. Reddy emphasized the hospital’s commitment to expand its services in the neurosurgery department.
“Initially, being a new department, some procedures were not available at the hospital, however, we are gradually introducing new services. Currently, we have two neuros on board,” the doctor told reporters. There are surgeons, and a second operation theater is proposed tocontinue.
With the increase in staff, our department will be equipped to handle a greater number of surgeries. Additionally, higher authorities have approved the introduction of brain endoscopy. If everything goes as planned, we expect to start the process within the next two to three months.”
He also provided the statistics of surgeries performed in the department since its establishment in 2019.
“During the last three years and eight months, we have successfully completed a total of 1,350 operations, including brain tumours, spine surgeries, and other trauma care surgeries,” said Reddy.
Regarding the weekly OPD services, the senior doctor noted, “Due to the high volume of emergency cases, our doctors devote extra time to attend to these critical patients.”
