RAJBALA: Overnight rain and inclement weather in the Garo Hills region forced many politicians to cancel important visits to the region ahead of the polls. He also retained the small village of Nekikona Kilapara under Rajabala constituency in the West Garo Hills.Early morning rain today forced many people to meet with AITC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee along with AITC political figures including her MP Derek O’Brien, Mehwa Moitra, Meghalaya Election In-charge, Manas Bhuyan, Leader of the Opposition gave a sense of meeting , Mukal Sangma.
Along with these leaders were MLA contestants from Rajabala, Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi, Phulbari’s SG Esmatur Mominin and Selsella’s Agassi R Marak.
Mukal Sangma made a late entry to the rally to be the last to speak, though for most of the attendees, ‘Didi’ and her fellow leaders made the wait worth it.
By this morning, the bad weather in the Garo Hills and the rains in the plains had left the entire area miserable, the ground where the rally was to be held was muddy and slippery. AITC, however, said that their meeting was still going on and Mamata was on her way.
Hearing the report that the meeting was proceeding, it was a bit of an uproar. People started showing up at the center at 9 am as the meeting began with speeches by MPs, Moitra, O’Brien and Bhuyan, all asking for a change of governance in the state and also why the TMC. was the best bet against. Corruption and BJP supported NPP.
While the gathering was huge, none of those present were experts in crowd numbers, so it would be difficult to put a number on it. However, the number of people inside and outside the rally venue was literally the same.
Around 12:30 pm, the vehicular movement towards the rally center turned into a nightmare. Crowd of people on both sides of AMPT road was making it difficult for commuters. An ambulance that was stuck but allowed for others, was the first gear of the day.
“There were many more people who could not come because of the congestion on the road. But with the kind of response we got to the rally, I think there is no longer a contest as to who is going to win the seat. The mandate is very Obvious,” said the local candidate, Mizanur.
Mamata, who entered the venue with Abhishek, gave a speech urging the gathering to choose the TMC and ensure a clean government, unlike what she saw as the BJP. supported by the NPP-led government as an abomination.
However, she was in a hurry to return to West Bengal as the weather continued to deteriorate and on the advice of her security counsel. However, she waited till Mukal Sangma finished his speech before rushing out.
Despite the meeting ending at around 2:20, people remained at the scene as those trying to make their way through were once again stuck in the path of backed-up traffic. The scene remained the same for over 2 hours later, clearing only when everyone realized they needed to go back home.
“It’s a virtual fair for all of us as we had all kinds of shops to visit. We also wanted to see and hear our Mamata Di. Ever since she started her political career. Since then he has been a firebrand and still is,” said a Rajabala resident who attended the meeting.
After this, there is an election rally of Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi in Tura.
