Dy CM: 44 MoAs Arunachal terminated with private power limited

Namsai (Arunachal): The Arunachal Pradesh government has terminated 44 memorandums of agreements (MoAs) with various private power developers as they “showed little interest” in executing the projects allotted to them, the deputy minister said. Chief Minister Chowna Mein said here on Sunday.
Talking to reporters here, Mein, who also holds the power portfolio, said that projects withdrawn from private developers would be handed over to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) and accordingly soon. A fresh MoA will be signed.
He said that these projects have an installed capacity of 32,415 MW.

“MoAs have been signed for nine projects with an installed capacity of 1300 MW and for the rest, it will be commissioned soon,” Mein said.
Mein said that the completed projects were offered to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), considering their efficiency and reliability.
He said that the state government has so far signed 153 MoAs with various CPSUs and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 46,943 MW. Center and hydropower were done as per the policies by State Govt.
He said that after the allotment many projects could not progress due to various reasons. Despite sending several notices to the concerned private developers, they were not inclined to execute the projects, for which, 44 MoAs have been scrapped,” Main said.
Among the decommissioned projects, the Nafra (120 MW) and New Melling (90 MW) projects were handed over to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited and Amulin (420 MW), Emini (500 MW) and Mihundon (400 MW) to Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN) “to open the projects which were stuck due to various reasons”, he said.
“The state government has been following up regularly with the Center on the issue of hydropower development and as a result, the central government has prepared an indicative list of 29 projects in its recent decision,” Mein said.
The Center has identified these projects for due diligence and recommended evaluation of each project for approval by CPSUs National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC), SJVN, NEEPCO and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDC) was analyzed.
Responding to media queries, the Deputy Chief Minister said, the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri project is in advanced stage of completion and two 500 MW units are expected to be commissioned during this year.

“The entire project will be commissioned in 2024, which will provide 240 MW of free power to the state government for its share,” Mein said.
