Guwahati: Newly elected members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly took their oath or affirmation during a special session in the assembly in Shillong on Monday.
The Commissioner and Secretary of the Legislative Assembly placed the notification of the formation of the 11th Assembly on behalf of the Election Commission on the table of the House.
It may be noted that the new government is going to be formed in Meghalaya after Conrad Sangma formed an alliance of 45 MLAs and got the support of BJP.
Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP) emerged as the single largest party with 26 seats, and he resigned as chief minister to vie for the post.
On Thursday, the House will sit again to elect the Speaker and also take a vote of confidence.
Conrad Sangma is also to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for another term.
As per the latest updates, Sangma now has the support of BJP, UDP, HSPDP, PDF and two independent MLAs.
