KOHIMA: The Naga Students Federation (NSF) held symbolic demonstrations at strategic locations in Kohima on Tuesday on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to seek a solution to the long-standing Naga political issue.
Students carrying placards stood at three strategic locations, namely Old MLA Junction, Phoolbari, and NSF Martyrs Park, adjacent to the capital’s cultural hall where the swearing-in ceremony of the new government took place.
NSF President Kegwayhun Tep told that NSF feels that the Naga political issue has been “almost forgotten”. While the BJP had advocated “elections for solutions” in the last elections, he said that 5 years have passed, but no solution has emerged.
With the election of a new government and the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state, he expressed hope that the aspirations of the Nagas would be heeded by the senior leader.
He said that the NSF had not done anything wrong by coming out on the streets to voice the aspirations of the Nagas. Tep assured that NSF will continue to fight till the Nagas get their autonomous rights.
He also urged the elected representatives to show seriousness on the issue and urged the negotiators to cooperate.
The NSF informed that one of the objectives of the demonstration was to demand the central government to show seriousness and be very sincere in its approach to ensure that the long-standing Indo-Naga political issue is resolved. A comprehensive, respectful and acceptable solution should be brought forward as soon as possible.
The NSF informed that through the demonstration, they reminded the newly elected representatives of the state to keep the aspirations of the Naga people in mind and make more serious efforts as facilitators and not to use the genuine and legitimate political issue of the Nagas. wants to make “Just a political ploy”.
The NSF also said that the demonstration is a reminder to the Naga negotiators that the Naga youth and student community are yearning for lasting peace in the Naga homeland and that the generations who will inherit this solution will not end the division within themselves. Will not tolerate anymore.
These demonstrations were organized with the active participation and support of the federal units and subordinate institutions.
