Shillong: Members of the North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and a group affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) reportedly clashed during Holi celebrations on Monday at NEHU, Meghalaya leaving two people with minor injuries.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over a gathering organized by the World Organisation of Students and Youth (WOSY).
NEHUSU claimed the group of around two hundred, including members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization linked to the RSS and BJP, violated university rules by holding a celebratory event on campus.
NEHUSU Vice President Easterson Sohtun filed a police report alleging assault by three individuals and claiming NEHUSU members intervened to uphold university regulations.
The ABVP claimed they were invited to a cultural exchange event by WOSY and accused NEHUSU of disrupting the program.
Police are investigating the incident with no arrests made yet. Both parties have filed separate FIRs.
