Dibrugarh: About 67 villages were affected by heavy hailstorm in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday evening.
The number of affected villages may increase.
In many areas of Dibrugarh city, huge trees were uprooted and electricity poles were uprooted.
The electricity was turned off.
Repairs are underway to restore electrical service.
“A total of 64 villages were affected in the four revenue circles of Dibrugarh due to hailstorm and heavy storm that hit many parts of Dibrugarh around 5 pm on Sunday. This was followed by heavy rain in many parts of Dibrugarh. The information has been received,” said an ASDMA official.
Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district administration has sent relief materials to the affected families.
According to reports, one person sustained minor injuries in Chiba Revenue Circle.
No casualty was reported in Dibrugarh. Several houses were damaged in the hailstorm in Moran Revenue Circle. We have sent 3000 tarpaulins to the affected families. We have also sent relief supplies,” the official said.
Power lines have been disconnected since Sunday and many areas of Dibrugarh are still without power due to repair work.
Within a week, this was the second time, heavy hailstorm hit Dibrugarh.
Massive damage is reported from various places in Dibrugarh due to hailstorm.
Many have been displaced and have taken shelter in other areas and many have worked temporarily with tarpaulins distributed by the Dibrugarh district administration.
Due to the hailstorm, our houses were damaged due to trees falling on our house. The roofs of our house are damaged and have large holes. We asked for compensation because we are poor people,” said a victim.
