Shillong: Around 100 cows have died so far in Meghalaya state and more than 8,000 have been affected by the lumpy skin disease, an official said.
An official of the Veterinary Health Department said that so far more than 28,500 cows have been vaccinated to control the disease.
A senior official of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department said that the number of cows affected by Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is 8,177 and 5,884 cows have recovered from the disease and 101 animals have died. According to the record.
He also said that more than 28,500 cows have been vaccinated against LSD and more than 2,100 cows are in various stages of LSD infection.
A veterinary department official claimed that African swine fever is “present” in pigs and that the disease has claimed more than 230 pigs across the state since January 2023.
