Due to Heat Wave Schools in West Garo to be Closed Till April 21

Meghalaya: The West Garo Hills district administration in Meghalaya has announced closure of educational institutions in the district from April 19 (Wednesday) to 21 (Friday) amid severe heat wave conditions.
An order from the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills district read, “In view of the severe heat wave in West Garo Hills district, and to ensure the safety and welfare of the students, teachers and staff, the undersigned declare that All primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary school activities in the district will be closed during day time (8:00 am to 3:00 pm) from 19-04-2023 to 21-04-2023.Evening/Night Schools Will remain active.
The circular said that the heat wave situation in the district is very alarming and the risk of heat stroke, dehydration and other heat related diseases cannot be ignored at such a time. Therefore, the DC appealed to all concerned authorities to follow the instructions issued.
“Hence, as a precautionary measure, all authorities concerned, including the District School Education Officer, are directed to ensure strict compliance of this order. Further, the mop-up exercise for National Deworming Day is directed to all institutions. to 24-04-23 i.e. Monday,” the order added.
Earlier, severe heat wave conditions forced the Tripura government to close all government and grant-in-aid schools from April 18 to 23. This was announced by state Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday afternoon.
The state of Tripura is currently experiencing a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, making it difficult for school children to bear the heat wave. In view of any adverse health effects from the heat wave, the Tripura government took this decision. Meanwhile, private educational institutions were urged to keep their institutions closed during this time.
