Guwahati: Pollution levels have been high in Guwahati for the past two months and children aged six months to five years are particularly vulnerable to respiratory infections.
According to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) officials, 10 to 15 children are being admitted every day with respiratory infections like bronchiolitis, pneumonia and asthma.
According to reports, 36 children were admitted to GMCH in the last 24 hours, of which 25 were suffering from respiratory infections.
However, the children are all fine now.
Doctors say that the dust particles in the air are leading to an increase in viral respiratory diseases.
A doctor also said that respiratory infections are more likely to affect children and senior citizens (60 years and above).
GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma advised people to wear masks, keep children indoors and take proper precautions like pouring water on school grounds if they are going to school.
He further said that people suffering from respiratory infection should come to the hospital immediately.
