Imphal: Manipur Police and Assam Rifles jawans of Narcotics and Affairs Border (NAB) arrested at least two alleged drug smugglers and recovered 6 kg of drugs.

Officials said on Thursday (April 06) that the value of the seized brown sugar consignment in the international market was estimated to be around Rs 12 crore.
Drugs smuggled into Manipur from Myanmar were arrested and seized during various operations during the last 24 hours.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of NAB, Manipur and Imphal Police Station arrested two persons, who were traveling with illegal drugs in a Bolero car and a Maruti Alto car, from Dewlahland in Imphal. From near Grace Lodge.
The team seized a carry bag containing six transparent polythene packets of brown sugar weighing 3.033 kg, including the weight of the polythene packets, a Manipur Home Department statement said.
The statement said that NAB registered a case against both under the ND&PS Act.

The arrested duo have been identified as Paoginthang Touthang (42) from Touthang Veng of Saikul in Kangpokpi district and Khaijamang Tothang (33) from Moreh of Yangoubung village in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.
The seized vehicles are now in the custody of NAB Manipur.

Meanwhile, in another drive against attempted illegal drug smuggling, troops of the Assam Rifles deployed along India-Myanmar border post No. 79 seized 2.982 kg of brown sugar packed in 70 soap cases around 4 am on Thursday exported.
Another official source said that a person, suspected to be a Myanmar national, who tried to smuggle drugs, left behind the contraband to a foot patrol party of the Assam Rifles from an area of ​​BP 79. He ran away after seeing it.

Sources added that the recovered drugs have been handed over to the Mora police station in Manipur for further legal action.
