Drug peddler injured in police firing in Assam

Morigaon (Assam): An alleged drug dealer was injured in police firing when he allegedly tried to flee, and heroin worth Rs 4 crore was recovered from his possession in the international market, police said on Tuesday.

 

“Last night at around 9 pm, the drug dealer was stopped at the Jagiroad police post on National Highway-37. However, seeing the police, he tried to flee. A round was fired and he was injured,” District Superintendent of Police Aparna Ann said.

The SP said that after basic treatment, he was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

A total of 33 people have been killed and at least 84 injured in police operations since the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, took office in May 2021, while allegedly escaping from custody. Attempted or attacked personnel.
