Imphal: A drug dealer and two kidnappers were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment in Manipur.
‘Drug peddler’ Khwairakpam Romio, 54, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 15 years and fined Rs 1 lakh under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act, a court dossier said. said
Special judge Bishnupur, W. Tonen, convicted the drug dealer on Monday.
He was arrested on October 1, 2004 by the Special Intelligence Unit of the Manipur Police along with 1050 grams of heroin from Lainingthou Khoriphaba Hill Inter Village Road under Nambol Police Station.
After completing the investigation, the investigating officer framed the charge sheet for trial on 3 October 2015.
The court order also said that the offender will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh within five years, failing which he will have to spend another 6 months in jail.
But the jail time served during the trial will be reduced from his 15-year rigorous imprisonment sentence.
Another court order also said that Akoijam Zilla (46) and Sanasam Binoy alias Inee (46), who kidnapped a woman in 2001, were sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 5,000 by the Sessions Judge, Thoubal district. A fine has been imposed.
The court order said that in case of non-payment of fine, the culprits will have to undergo another 6 months imprisonment.
