Agartala: There are 27,33,891 voters in Tripura’s 60 assembly constituencies, according to the draft electoral roll that was published on Wednesday.
Assembly elections in Tripura are due early next year.
According to the draft electoral roll, Tripura has a total of 27,33,891 voters, of which 13,80,181 are male, 13,53,664 are female and 46 are third gender.
With the publication of draft electoral lists, claims and objections will be allowed till December 8, while special campaigns will be conducted on November 19, 20 and December 3 and 4. 26, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kiran Gitte said in a press conference.
He said that the final electoral lists in which the upcoming assembly elections will be held will be prepared on January 1, 2023.
The CEO said that the final lists will be published on January 5, 2023.
“The draft voter list will be available for revision at all 3,328 polling booths, tehsil offices and SDM offices. SDMs have been asked to hold special camps in all degree colleges to include eligible voters in the voter list,” he said.
He said that the focus would be on the preparation of error-free electoral rolls to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner, adding that he would meet the political parties beforehand to get feedback on the election preparations.
The CEO said that single-phase elections are being held in the northeastern state.
Tripura has polls in the second part of March and in a phase…hope there will be no exception this time too. We are expecting the first elections due to the deployment of security forces in one of the three states (Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland). The additional forces that will be deployed in Tripura will go to Meghalaya or Nagaland after polling in the state is over,” he explained.
On allegations by the opposition parties over the law and order situation, Gitte said the Election Department is closely monitoring the situation to ensure peace as the draft electoral rolls have already been published.
On the visit of the Election Commission team, the CEO said that they are likely to visit the state within the next 10 to 15 days to oversee the election preparations including the roll revision process.
