Dr Sangeeta Dutta undergoes health checkup in Child abuse case

GUWAHATI: Arrested Guwahati-based psychiatrist Dr Sangeeta Dutta underwent a health check-up at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday.

Dr. Sangeeta Dutta and her surgeon husband Dr. Waliul Islam were arrested by Guwahati police in Assam for allegedly sexually abusing their ‘adopted’ minor daughter.
Laxmi Rai, the maid of Guwahati-based doctor couple, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Notably, Dr. Sangeeta Dutta’s blood sample was also tested during her health check-up at GMCH in Guwahati, Assam.
Meanwhile, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has appointed child rights activist Miguel Das Queah as the victim support person in the Guwahati abuse case.

After questioning by the police, Dr. Sangeeta Dutta revealed that the minor victim was not her child.
She claimed that the victim girl and her twin brother were referred by a woman to a doctor couple in Guwahati in 2019.

Guwahati police in Assam said the victim was sexually assaulted.
The private parts of the ‘adopted’ daughter of a Guwahati-based doctor couple – Dr Sangeeta Dutta and Dr Waliul Islam – were burnt with cigarettes.

Assam Police said the victim was confirmed after necessary medical tests of the minor girl.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah said, “The young girl was confined on the fourth floor of Roma Enclave, the residence of Dr. Couple. The 3-year-old girl had bruises and burn marks on her private parts and bruises on several parts of her body. During the medical examination, it was also found that the private parts of the child were burnt with a cigarette.
