DoNER minister in Mizoram says peace has been restored in troubled areas of Northeast.

Aizawl: Peace has been restored in several troubled areas of the Northeast.

This claim was made by Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy.

DNER Minister G Kishan Reddy has claimed that peace has been restored in some troubled areas of the North East due to which the NDA government has implemented a substantial development policy in the region.

He said that the first priority of the central government in the North East is the development of infrastructure.
“In the last 8 years there has been a lot of development in the Northeast like air, road, telecom and cultural connectivity. With infrastructure connectivity and development activities we can now see peace in some of the troubled areas of the region,” Reddy said in Mizoram. K said while giving a briefing to media representatives in Aizawl.

He said that people are expecting development as the situation is now peaceful.
The donor minister added that the Center has taken several steps for development activities in the North East.

He said the Center is developing 100 roadside facilities, including points in the Northeast and 9 of them will be constructed in Mizoram.

Reddy, who also holds the portfolios of tourism and culture, inaugurated the International Tourism Mart (ITM) in Aizawl on Thursday evening.

This mega tourism event is being jointly organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism and Mizoram Tourism Department to highlight the tourism potential of North East in the domestic and international markets.

Reddy said the event will focus on the ‘G20 priorities for the tourism track’, as India will hold the presidency of the influential group for a year from December 1 to November 30 next year.

“We have to use this opportunity (the G-20 meetings) to showcase our cultural wealth. Our focus is not only on the hospitality industry, but also on promoting leisure centers, adventure tourism, cruise tourism and wellness tourism. The focus will be on giving,” Reddy said while addressing a mart at R Dengthwama Hall in the southern suburbs of Aizawl.

According to the Union Minister, more than 200 G-20 meetings will be held in more than 50 cities, including the capitals of northeastern states.

The G-20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies.

Reddy said that the Northeast region has huge potential for tourism, which is yet to be explored.

He said that the Union Ministry of Tourism has given special importance to the development and promotion of tourism in North Eastern states.

The Union Minister also said that the Center has planned to set up a National Digital Tourism Mission to promote tourism in the country.
“Today as we gather here for the ITM, we must come together and discuss new ideas to promote the tourism sector in the North East region as we also prepare to chair the G20 countries. We must work to position India as one of the leaders in the tourism sector by 2047,” said Reddy.

International tourism marts are organized on a rotational basis in North Eastern states.

Mizoram is hosting this mart for the first time this year. Earlier editions of this mart have been held in Guwahati, Tawang, Shillong, Gangtok, Agartala, Imphal and Kohima.
