Do not supply goods to Meitei state forces, Kuki volunteers warned


Imphal: In a new set of measures, the Kuki Village Volunteers (VV) of Manipur’s Tengnoupal district appealed to all shopkeepers in Moreh border town to stop supply of essential items including water to Meitei state forces from February 1, 2024.
A press statement issued by the Information and Publicity Department Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal District Eastern Zone warned shopkeepers that anyone found supplying goods to state forces would face severe punishment.
It added, “Moreh has recently been facing some challenges, especially in terms of supply of supplies to the state forces. Implementation of measures to maintain peace and ensure safety of all persons. It has become necessary. Therefore, from February 2024, we request all the shopkeepers operating in the evening market areas of Moreh to close their shops before the withdrawal of state forces from Moreh.”
Kuki Village Volunteers (VV) Tengnoupal is demanding the withdrawal of state forces deployed to maintain peace in the district.
The state government has deployed additional forces in Moreh after several houses belonging to the Meitei community were torched on May 3, 2023.
More than 3,000 Meiteis were forced to leave their ancestral homes in Moreh and are taking shelter in various camps in the valley districts of Manipur.
