Disturbed areas in northeast under AFSPA to be reduced, says Amit Shah
In a statement which could have a huge impact on the North East, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Center would reduce the troubled areas in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
In a significant step, the GoI, under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister @NarendraModiji, has decided to reduce the troubled areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur after decades. Amit Shah tweeted.
Shah further said that the reduction in areas under AFSPA is the result of improved security situation and rapid development due to continuous efforts and numerous agreements by PM @narendramodi government to end insurgency and bring lasting peace in the North East.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga took to Twitter to thank Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the announcement.
