Guwahati: The official Facebook page of the Dima Hasao Tourism Department, titled “Dima Hasao Tourism” has fallen victim to a cyber attack, as reported by Nirmendu Kemprai, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department in Dima Hasao District on Friday.
In a press release issued by Kemprai, it was revealed that the official social media page had recently been compromised, leading to objectionable content being posted that shocked followers and officials.
Despite efforts by administrators to regain control, the “Dima Hasao Tourism” page remained inaccessible.
Kemprai said a complaint has been lodged with Facebook authorities, and the cyber cell of Haflong police station has been informed.
He urged social media users to unfollow the compromised page and follow the tourism department’s new official page titled “Dima Hasao Tourism Official” for tourism updates.
The press release highlighted that the tourism department, under the administrative control of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, had been operating the original Facebook page “Dima Hasao Tourism” since 2016, amassing around 10,000 followers.
Kemprai held a news conference in Haflong on Friday to disseminate information and raise awareness among social media users.
Dima Hasao, one of Assam’s autonomous hill districts, attracts numerous tourists from India and abroad each year, with popular spots including Haflong, Jatinga, Maibang, and Kepeilo.
Notably, last month, hackers attempted to breach the Facebook account of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Chief Minister suggested that the hackers may have been operating from Pakistan.
