In Dibrugarh 60 years old man arrested raped 13 years old girl
Dibrugarh: Two persons were arrested for gang-raping a 14-year-old minor girl in Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Bhaijan Ali and Mahfooz Ali from Lahowal area.
According to police reports, the minor girl was found unconscious near Athabari tea garden on Sunday afternoon. Her hands and legs were tied with rope and it is suspected that she was gang-raped. She was missing since February 3.
Bhaijan Ali is the main accused, and it is believed that he and his accomplices supplied him with liquor. The victim was allegedly abducted by Bhaijan Ali on February 3 and taken to a tea garden where she was allegedly kept for two days and raped.
The victim’s mother questioned Bhaijan Ali suspecting her daughter’s abduction and when the news spread, the police were informed. The accused have since been arrested.
The girl has been referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment and examination. The police have registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is ongoing.
The incident has been widely condemned and calls have been made for the death penalty for the culprits. Arpana Bora, a local activist, termed the incident as a “complete failure of the police” in light of two recently reported crimes in Dibrugarh, including the abduction and murder of a 4-year-old minor boy.
