Devastating flood in Baksa district a Fortuner washed away in water

Guwahati: The placid Diring river in Baksa district turned treacherous after devastating floods hit the district, leading to a Fortuner vehicle being washed away trying to cross the raging waters.
A JCB excavation and public assistance rescue efforts saved the vehicle after about two hours of intensive operation. The incident took place on the road between Mushalpur and Nayabasti, where the local people had to cross the flooded areas due to the lack of a bridge over the Diring river.
Baksa district has been suffering from severe floods, exacerbated by the absence of essential infrastructure.

Due to the lack of a bridge connecting Sinadibasti to Mushalpur and Maithabari, residents have no choice but to wade through water and face challenges during their daily commute.
As the flood situation persists, many parts of Assam are under the brunt of nature’s wrath. According to the latest bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on July 13, the districts of Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Nalbari, Tamulpur, and Tinsukia have been severely affected.
In the last 24 hours, where no human life has been lost, the total number of people who have died due to flood has increased to seven.
The ASDMA report shows that rivers like Beki (Road Bridge), Disang (Nanglamuraghat) and Brahmaputra (Dhubri and Neamatighat) are currently flowing above the danger level.
The impact of the floods has been far-reaching, with 179 villages in 19 revenue circles inundated. Additionally, an estimated 2211.99 hectares of cropland has been significantly damaged across Assam, according to ASDMA.
