Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on July 3 announced the abolition of all bunkers in both the hill and valley regions of the state. The operation will be led by the army, supported by paramilitary forces. Addressing a press conference held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, N Biren Singh outlined the government’s strong stand on the issue.
The Chief Minister disclosed that concrete steps were taken during the joint headquarters meeting held earlier. Expressing concern over the establishment of private bunkers by members of various communities, he stressed that unauthorized bunkers would not be allowed at any location.
The move is aimed at maintaining peace and preventing a possible escalation of tensions.
In view of the approaching monsoon season and the need to facilitate timely agricultural activities, the Chief Minister announced the mobilization of around 2,000 security personnel, including the Manipur Rifles and I.I. Including RB.
Their presence will ensure the safety of the farmers of both communities and prevent any sabotage activities by armed miscreants. Central forces have already been deployed in these areas.
To control the situation, the Chief Minister revealed plans to set up security force posts on the hilltops. Additionally, drone surveys will be conducted around the clock, monitored from central headquarters, to provide real-time information and reinforcements when needed.
In an attempt to allay concerns about illegal arms possession, the chief minister announced a massive search operation. As law and order is gradually improving, he urged the public to voluntarily surrender illegally held arms and ammunition to avoid legal consequences.
Additionally, N Biren Singh shared that the government has decided to reopen schools from class 1 to 8 from July 5, 2023. However, classes will resume for students of grades 9 to 12 and those residing in relief camps after the completion of prefabricated houses.
To facilitate communication and redressal of grievances, the Chief Minister unveiled a toll-free helpline number, ‘18003090931’, where people can share their concerns and needs for relief assistance.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to maintain the confidence of the people, N Biren Singh assured that no action would be taken which would harm the integrity of the state or the administrative system.
He thanked the civil society organizations of various communities for promoting peace and harmony. The Chief Minister also appreciated the role of women in maintaining the integrity of the state and maintaining peace.
