Guwahati: Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma has claimed that in the next five years the demand for Greater Tipraland will be a thing of the past.
According to him, the BJP has made several promises in its election manifesto which will help ensure the welfare and development of the local people of Tripura.
Varma added that the main focus of the manifesto is on development and that the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) can now directly apply for central schemes.
Asked if this was done to counter Tipra Motha, Varma said all concerns about Tipra were addressed in the manifesto, except for bifurcation of the state, which he said was impossible to do.
He also blamed the CPIM for creating a sense of difference among the people after 1980. Varma concluded by saying that the BJP’s promises would lead to a golden age for Tripura and that the Tipraland demand would end in five years.
When asked why the BJP abandoned the promise of employment, Varma said it was impossible to employ everyone in government offices or as teachers and they had to create institutions first before creating employment.
