Demanding Greater Tipraland, Tipra Motha calls hold 12 hrs bandh

Agartala: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) ground to a halt on September 30 as Tipra Motha, the primary opposition party in Tripura, enforced a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh.

The bandh was organized to press for a constitutional solution to the long-standing issues faced by the indigenous population of the state.

The bandh, which commenced in the early hours, unfolded without any reported incidents, demonstrating the peaceful nature of the protest.

Tipra Motha has organized the bandh in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the leader of Tipra Motha, has urged party leaders to observe the proposed September 30 bandh peacefully and make it a resounding success.

“I appeal to party MLAs, executive members, and MDCs of TTAADC to be on the ground and make the bandh a total success, sending a strong message to Delhi.

I want to see all the warriors of Tiprasa on the ground to remain connected with the people,” he declared on social media.

“For the past 76 years, injustice has been done to the sons of the soil by depriving them of rights to land, politics, and the economy. We have waited for long, but now we want our rights to be recognized,” he stated.

Debbarma criticized the CPI(M) for opposing the bandh called by the regional party.

He clarified that the bandh should not be viewed as a political move, but rather as a means to send a robust message to Delhi that “Tiprasa people are united and raising their voices for their rights.”

“The people who came and urged me not to field candidates in Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly by-elections are opposing the bandh called by Tipra Motha! They had projected Manik Sarkar (former CM) as the poorest chief minister but did not explain why he had not done anything for the Tiprasa people. They ruled the state for 25 years but left the Tiprasa people most underdeveloped in the northeast,” he alleged.
