Demand for 'frontier Nagaland' state: 20 MLAs pledge not to contest 2023 assembly polls

Kohima: ‘frontier Nagaland’ The demand for a separate state in eastern Nagaland is gaining momentum.

With the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) intensifying its activities demanding a separate state, 20 MLAs from Nagaland have reportedly vowed not to contest elections until the demand is met.

The Eastern Nagaland region consists of six districts: Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak and Shamator.
These six districts of Nagaland are inhabited by seven tribes – Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Takir and Yimkhiung.
The ENPO, in a recent meeting with politicians, tribal bodies and other organizations from eastern Nagaland, decided not to contest any election until their demand for a separate state of “Frontier Nagaland” was met. It is not fulfilled.
20 MLAs of the area cannot go against the will of the people. Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union secretary and NPF MLA ACL John told news agency PTI that the state agitation is a people’s movement and we are all with them.

The NPF lawmaker said that ENPO has made representations and representations to the Center on several occasions since the movement’s inception in 2010.

Elections to the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly are likely to be held during February-March next year.
