December 16 assault incident condemned by Naga organizations

Kohima: The Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU), Dimapur Rengma Youth Organisation (DRYO), and National Health Mission Employees Association (NEAN) Zunheboto Unit today joined others in condemning the alleged assault and intimidation of four youths during the intervening hours of December 16 and 17.

CAKSU:  The Union expressed deep shock and concern over the reported involvement of individuals claiming affiliation with various national workers in such “heinous act.”

“This kind of violence against innocent citizens is utterly unacceptable, has no place in our society, and deserves unequivocal condemnation,” it stated.

It further asserted that “weapons entrusted for protection and safeguarding the public must never be used to intimidate or harm innocent individuals.”

In this connection, the CAKSU demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators under relevant laws and urge the authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to deliver justice to the victims.

The Union stands in full solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time and will closely monitor the situation to ensure justice is served, it added.

DRYO: The DYRO strongly condemned the incident while informed that two of the victims were its bonafide members.
The brutal physical assault has resulted in grievous injuries requiring hospitalisation, it said.

The DYRO also stated that the assault was perpetrated by cadres of the NSCN/GPRN (Akato) and it allegedly occurred at the private residence of its Ato Kilonser Michael Yepthomi in Thahekhu Village, Dimapur.

The victims were subjected to inhumane treatment, including being confined in an iron cage and assaulted for hours, it claimed.
Accordingly, the DRYO demands that the State Police arrest the perpetrators within 24 hours and book them under National Security Act, 1980.

It also called the closure of the private residence allegedly used for illegal activities.

“If our demands are not met, we will pursue our own course of action to ensure justice is served,” the DRYO, while extending its in solidarity with the victims and their families.

NEAN Zunheboto Unit: The NEAN, Zunheboto Unit also strongly condemned what it termed as  the “abduction and physical assault” of four civilians, including employees of the National Health Mission, on December 16 by individuals claiming to be “National Workers.”

This heinous act was carried out without any justification and deserves the strongest denunciation, it stated.

In this connection, the Unit called upon the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, resist any political pressure, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice under relevant provisions of the law.

“Justice must prevail to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the rights of all citizens to ensure that such incidents does not occur again,” it added.
