Debalina Roy first female from Tripura all set to run trains

Agartala: Debalina Roy, a resident of Tripura’s Ramnagar, is all set to run trains. She became the first female in the state to clear the Indian Railways examination, securing the post of Assistant Loco Pilot.

“It’s a dream come true. Since childhood, I wanted to serve in railways, a mode of transport used by crores of Indians every day,” said an elated Roy.
While interacting with the media, she told how she came across an advertisement released by the Indian Railways while preparing for civil services exams.

“In 2018, I cleared the preliminary exam and later attempted the mains. I thought it would be a good experience to start writing exams for technical posts, but I got selected”, she said.
Congratulatory messages poured in for her on various social media platforms as she created history for the state.

She said that Railways is a big platform that fulfills many wishes. “I feel that any female candidate who is qualified for this role should not find themselves denied employment because of their gender identity,” Debalina Roy shared.
She said that in the present modern society, it has become necessary that both men and women contribute to building a strong and financially independent family. “It is quite natural that people want to see someone in the role that I have been chosen for but times have changed,” she said.
When asked about his preparation for the exam, Roy said that it took her around four months to prepare himself. “As soon as I saw the advertisement, I contacted some of my seniors who were already working with the railways to understand about the job. I found it adventurous,” she added.
While ferrying passengers from one end of the country to the other can be a challenge, Roy expressed his determination to start working as an assistant loco pilot.

Roy did her schooling in a private school and went on to pursue a diploma in electrical engineering from the Tripura Institute of Technology, after which she obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from GMIT Kolkata.
