Fresh violence erupted in Bishnupur as seven more killed

Manipur: Police and administration sources told that the ongoing violence in Manipur has claimed more than 50 lives across the state.

Sources said the number is based on dead bodies kept in mortuary at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences and District Hospital in Churachandpur. “RIMS had 22 bodies in the mortuary, JNIMS had 12, and the district hospital in Churachandpur had 12,” a source told.
He added that many deaths are still unaccounted for.

Three persons were killed in Churachandpur on Thursday and four persons were killed on Friday night.
This number is likely to increase as this number includes only those who report to the police station and bodies picked up by the police. How many people died of their injuries in different hospitals.

Of the dead, 9 deaths were reported at Lamphel police station, 4 of which were reported on Friday, another reliable source confirmed.
Central government officials are also among the dead. The Indian Revenue Service Association said that tax assistant Letminthang Haokip was killed in Imphal. “No reason or ideology can justify the killing of an innocent public servant on duty,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Vungzagin Valte, MLA from Thanlon constituency in Pherzawl district, attacked by an angry mob while returning from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, is said to be out of danger in Delhi. “His vitals have improved and he is recovering. However, there is a possibility that he may lose sight in one eye,” he added.
