DCW in its report to President Murmu, impose President rule

Imphal: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) submitted an interim report to President Droupadi Murmu demanding the immediate imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur and the Supreme Court ordered an SIT to probe the incidents of violence in the northeastern state. Supervised .
DCW chief Swati Maliwal, who was in Manipur last week, interacted with the victims of the communal violence that has ravaged the state since May 3, 2023.
As part of the interim recommendations, the DCW has said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh should resign from office and a Supreme Court-supervised Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the ethnic clashes and the government’s response should be established.
The report also recommended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers to visit the state immediately.

Manipur has been in the grip of ethnic clashes since 3 May 2023, when a solidarity march was held to protest against the demand for Scheduled Tribe status by the majority Meitei community in the hill districts.
