Agartala: A day after former BJP MLA Atul Debbarma resigned from Krishnapur assembly constituency to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate, a group of motorcycle-borne miscreants attacked him. attacked when he was returning from the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
Although he was not injured in the attack, the miscreants ransacked his car. Dr Debbarma was elected to the state assembly in 2018 and defeated his rival candidate from the CPIM by a decisive margin. However, this time Janajati Morcha state president Bikash Debbarma has replaced the doctor-turned-politician as the BJP nominee.
Expressing his disappointment over the party’s unilateral decision, Debbarma said he was never told why his name was dropped. He was not even consulted before being unceremoniously removed from the post where he served for five years with “devotion”.

In a social media post, Dr Debbarma said, “I tried to avoid entering parliamentary politics. But I was convinced by the party which forced me to choose public life at the cost of my family.” ” he pointed out.
After the attack, Debbarma said, “The attacks took place in front of the policemen. I could sense that there might be attacks that alerted the police. Despite proper security arrangements, 10 to 10 on a motorcycle 12 miscreants tried to attack me and broke the front windshield of my car.
The former BJP leader, however, did not blame anyone for the attacks. According to the BJP MLA, she was being pressured to withdraw her nomination and the attacks were part of those pressure tactics. Dr Debbarma also resigned from the core membership of the BJP.
