Exotic Animal Trafficking
Aizawl: Police in the northeastern state of Mizoram have stepped up their crackdown on the smuggling of exotic animals.
Police rescued exotic animals from the clutches of animal smugglers in Kolasib district of Mizoram on Tuesday.
Police rescued two Columbus monkeys and a crocodile in Kolasib district of Mizoram on Tuesday.
Mizoram police have also arrested an animal smuggler in this case.
The Mizoram police launched an operation to rescue the animals after receiving information about smuggling of exotic animals.
When a vehicle was searched near the Saiphai police post in Mizoram, the exotic animals – two Columbus monkeys and a crocodile – were rescued.
Meanwhile, the arrested person – the driver of the vehicle has been identified as Hussain Barbhuyan.
The arrested person belongs to Cachar district of Assam.
Mizoram Police has started further investigation into the matter.
