Agartala: Tripura CPI-M state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhary on Monday claimed that soon after the declaration of election results on March 2, around 668 incidents of violence have taken place across the state where workers of opposition political parties were attacked. There were attacks, their houses, shops were damaged either robbed or demolished.
On Sunday, a three-member CPI-M delegation met Chief Secretary JK Sinha and apprised him of the violence meted out to CPI-M party workers across the state by alleged supporters of the ruling BJP faced with bullies.
The delegation included CPIM state secretary and newly elected MLA and CPIM state committee secretary Chaudhary, Left Front convener and former MP Narayan Kar and former education minister Tapan Chakraborty.
In a memorandum, Chaudhary has called for immediate action to control the violence and provide relief to the families of the victims.
“You must be aware of the fact that immediately after the results of the assembly elections, since the afternoon of March 2, the entire state has once again experienced complete lawlessness due to post-poll violence by BJP supporters. It has come under wraps.
“There are a large number of incidents of intimidation in various forms such as vandalism of residential houses and businesses, looting and arson, physical attacks, extortion, physical attacks and restrictions on the livelihood of the common people, etc. There are additional case reports, out of which details of 668 cases are being attached.
He alleged that this situation arose due to the direct instigation of the ruling party as well as the biased role of the law and order machinery.

CPI-M leaders have urged the chief secretary to call a state-level peace meeting with leaders of various political parties to restore peace.
