COVID-19: China’s Shanghai will go for phased lockdown
Shanghai: To prevent the spread of COVID-19 powered by Omicron, Shanghai will launch a phased lockdown.
China has reportedly suffered the most COVID-19 cases since the early days of the epidemic.
The government said Shanghai would close its eastern half for five days of testing starting Monday.
This will be followed by a similar lockdown in the western part of the country from April 1.
In the last few days, Shanghai has become a COVID-19 hotspot.
Cases began to rise in early March.
On Sunday, China’s National Health Commission reported more than 4,500 new cases transmitted locally.
Shanghai has decided to avoid a complete lockdown and will continue to operate the East China Sea port and financial center.
The decision was made “for the benefit of both national and global economies.”
