Congress’ top brass to decide fate of suspended Meghalaya MLAs

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has said that top party officials will decide the fate of the five suspended Congress MLAs.
In February, Congress MLAs Ampareen Lyngdoh, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohandro Rapsang and Kimfa Marbaniang backed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, after which the MPCC issued show cause notices to five MLAs.
Five MLAs have not yet responded to the notice.
MPCC Working President PN Syiem said that any further steps are in the hands of senior party officials, including whether they will be expelled from the party or not.
Syiem said there was no time frame for the show cause notice and it was not easy for the five MLAs to reach a conclusion, as it was the voters and the lower echelons who had elected them. Syiem added that any decision taken without considering them could prove fatal in the forthcoming 2023 Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, suspended Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh said he did not care what any leader said. Pointing to All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) party leader Dr Mukul Sangma, Lyngdoh said, “They know that if they had a lucrative position like ours, we would all try to get involved. So, any It is wrong for the party to say that it is reprehensible. It does not matter how they interpret it. The five of us are in a good position. We are in a position of authority. We are in a position where Officers are now looking at us, looking at our application from a different point of view. It will only benefit the constituency and nothing more. “
