Congress MP Bimol Akoijam lashes Modi govt over Manipur crisis

NEW DELHI: Congress MP from Inner Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, delivered a sharp critique of the Modi government during the ongoing parliamentary session, condemning its handling of the escalating violence in Manipur.

Akoijam accused the government of being a “mute spectator” to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which has left the state in turmoil.

Highlighting the exclusion of the Manipur issue from the President’s address, Akoijam expressed deep disappointment, stating that this omission reflects the Modi government’s disregard for the state’s plight.

“The Manipur issue was completely excluded from the President’s address,” the Congress MP from Manipur said.

The Manipur Congress MP further painted a grim picture of the humanitarian crisis in Manipur, stating that over 60,000 people are still languishing in relief camps.

Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said “I would keep quiet the moment, the Prime Minister opens his mouth and the nationalist party says that Manipur is part of India and we care for the people of that state. Only then I will accept what is nationalism in our face.”

Amid applause and table-thumping from the opposition benches, Congress MP from Inner Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, delivered a passionate critique of the Modi government.

“The kind of priority given to Manipur is reminiscent of a colonial mindset in a post-colonial era,” Akoijam asserted.

Akoijam criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the issue and expressed disappointment that President Droupadi Murmu did not mention Manipur in her joint address to Parliament.

“Can you negate the fact that we are talking about the inclusion of Northeast history after 75 years of Independence? That’s a classic exclusion,” he concluded.
