Congress demands prez rule, Manipur clash seems 'pre-planned'

Imphal: The Congress has said that the large-scale clash in the northeastern state of Manipur appears to be “pre-planned”.

The Congress party has further demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, saying that “the BJP government has failed to control the situation”.

The Congress said that the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur is necessary to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-hit state.
Talking about the widespread clash in the state, Manipur Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das said that the party demands Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the kin of those killed in the violence.

In addition, the Congress demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to those whose houses were destroyed in the violence in Manipur.
“The BJP government in Manipur has failed to stop the violence or rescue the affected people and provide basic amenities to those living in the relief camps,” Das said.

The Congress party has also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the violence in Manipur.
“Prime Minister has not even tweeted about Manipur. Does the Government of India even exist? asked Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das while briefing the media on Thursday.
Why has the Union Home Minister not yet visited the state of Manipur? Why did the Prime Minister not issue an appeal for peace? He asked more.

The Congress leader also questioned “what steps the central government has taken (in Manipur) to restore peace and protect lives and property of the people”.
