Congress criticized Amit Shah for visiting Assam instead of Manipur

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for choosing to visit Assam’s Guwahati instead of violence-hit Manipur.

It is worth mentioning here that since violence broke out on May 3, the northeastern state of Manipur has been simmering.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “Union Home Minister went to Guwahati today, but doesn’t think it’s appropriate to visit Imphal when Manipur has been burning for 22 days.”

He added: “This is the same Union Home Minister, who has held 16 rallies and 15 road shows in Karnataka, but he is not able to find time for the people of Manipur because of the so-called dualistic ideology and politics are suffering huge losses from double-engine Sarkar (Government).
It should be noted that soon after the Congress leader’s tweet, it was announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Manipur on May 29.
Earlier, Amit Shah himself said that he will visit Manipur for three days.

“I will visit Manipur and stay there for three days,” Amit Shah had said.

Amit Shah was addressing an event at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra in Guwahati, Assam.

Addressing the event, Amit Shah also assured that justice will be provided to all the violence victims of Manipur.
During his visit to Manipur, Amit Shah said that he will engage in discussions with all stakeholders.

The Union Home Minister also said that “this is the first time in Manipur in the last six years, since the BJP came to power in the state, this kind of violence has erupted”.

Seeking to distance the BJP governments – both at the Center and in Manipur – Amit Shah said that the violence had erupted because of the court’s verdict.

Amit Shah said, “I appeal to all the people of Manipur to maintain peace.

He added: “Every problem can be solved through dialogue.”
