Manipur: The Congress party has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should focus on Manipur, at least now that the BJP has lost the elections in Karnataka.
The North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should follow “Raj Dharma” and focus on restoring peace in violence-hit Manipur.
Earlier, the Congress party had questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the violence in Manipur.
“Prime Minister has not even tweeted about Manipur. Does the Government of India even exist? Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das had asked the question on May 11.
Why has the Union Home Minister not yet visited the state of Manipur? Why did the Prime Minister not issue an appeal for peace? He asked more.
The Congress also accused two valley-based outfits in Manipur of “spreading fear and terror” in the state “on the lines of RSS and Bajrang Dal”.
Manipur Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das compared Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun to RSS and Bajrang Dal.
He said that both Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun areas were allegedly “settled” by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Moreover, the Congress leader had said that the large-scale violence in the northeastern state of Manipur appeared to be “pre-planned”.
The Congress party demanded the imposition of President’s rule in Manipur, saying that the “BJP government has failed to control the situation”.
The Congress had said that the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur is necessary to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-hit state.
“The BJP government in Manipur has failed to stop the violence or rescue the affected people and provide basic amenities to those living in the relief camps,” Das said.
120-125 columns of the Army and Assam Rifles were deployed in Manipur since the violence started on May 3.
